Starting in 1957 with just £50, Abdul Kader and his wife Maryam built a small drapery in Bradford, sourcing Lancashire cottons for Yorkshire's Asian communities. As the traditional British textile industry declined, they pivoted to importing fabrics from South Asia, giving birth to Bombay Stores — a name that became synonymous with quality and community.
A New Chapter
Today, Bombay Bazaar transforms this iconic 15,000 sq ft building into a vibrant indoor market — bringing together independent traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs under one roof. Inspired by the great souqs of the Middle East and the bustling bazaars of South Asia, this is more than a market; it's a cultural destination.
